Incontinence Evaluation and Treatment

As women become older, and especially if they have experienced natural childbirth, pelvic floor supports tend to weaken which results in loss of urine while coughing, laughing, straining down or during exercise. Initially this can be controlled by conscientious pelvic floor tightening or Kegel exercises, but over time symptoms can become worse, pads are needed more frequently and embarrassing episodes occur more often. As if this were not enough, symptoms of frequency or overactive bladder, sometimes leading to urge incontinence, can also occur at the same time as stress leakage. Drs. Jacobson and Hagberg can precisely evaluate the type, extent and degree of bladder dysfunction in a simple 30 minute office study. With this information the correct treatment plan can be developed, whether nutritional, medical or surgical to best suit your condition.
